Creating a Classroom of Thinkers: 5E Lesson Planning
2.5 Credit Hours
The Illinois Early Learning and Developmental Standards aligned with Common Core State Standards promote student-centered instruction with teachers acting as facilitators of learning. In this training, participants will be introduced to the 5E lesson planning protocol- engage, explore, explain, elaborate, evaluate. Using the 5E format allows students to lead the learning, with teachers providing guidance through exploration and rich discussions. This lesson planning model can be used with any subject or topic and works best with toddler through school age children. Creating a Classroom of Thinkers: 5E Lesson Planning falls under Curriculum and Program Development Competency 2: Synthesizes the relationship between standards, evidence-based practices, culturally competent teaching strategies and curricular planning.
The learning objectives for this course are:
- I can use IL Early Learning and Development Standards to plan classroom activities.
- I can incorporate evidence-based teaching practices into lesson plans.
- I can assist children in developing intellectual curiosity.
- I can ask open ended questions.
